Works but us usually unecessary. September 17, 2008
If you need to connect your Wii via a hardwire to your lan network, because you do not have a wifi network available, then this is the product for you.
But remember, the Wii comes with built in wifi support, and if you have highspeed internet in any form, you should have also purchased a wifi-router to go with your cable/dsl modem. There are plenty of good products out there for this purpose; the linksys wrt54g or its follow-on variants is an old, solid and well respected one, for example.
I had no problems getting my Wii to connect to the internet through my wrt54g within 15 minutes of unboxing the new wii. And that was WITH having to tell the wii about my wifi network, which is locked down and does not advertise itself (so I had to manually enter the wifi network name, and manually enter the WPA encryption key). The only tricky part there was adding the MAC address to the filter list in the wifi access point, because the MAC address does not seem to be printed on the outside label of the Wii.. but the linksys wrt54g did show me what the mac address was, and I added it easily enough.
So, unless you really need to have wired network access (which only gets you that one wii connected), just get a wifi access point or router, which will allow all wifi devices to connect to the internet (multiple Wii systems, your DS systems, etc).

Bought this a week ago, and seemed to work alright at first. Then I started playing Mario Kart online, but after every three races, my Wii would crash and I'd have to restart. Very consistent, ALWAYS after three races online. I called nintendo, and they said that it was 100% because of the Intec Lan Adapter. I went to the Intec website to call them and get their side of the story...but their contact page is totally blank!
Bottom line...DON'T BUY THIS!
And Amazon, if you're listening, please stop selling products from shady third-party manufacturers...

This adapter worked well out of the box. I went to the network config and set up the Wii to use the wired connection and it connected without any issues. Never had an issue with the adapter.
I also found that it works well for connecting computers to the network when an ethernet port is not available. I used it to connect my OLPC to the network and it worked great.

I have messed with networking technologies for a while, with hubs, routers, etc. running on my home network, built my son's gaming PC from scratch - I have some experience getting computer and networking gear to work. I could not make this lan adapter work. My router/DHCP server would give it an IP address, but the Wii would always fail the connect test. After trying everything I could think of, I wound up talking to Nintendo support on the phone for an hour, after debugging quite a bit they found out that it was not a Nintendo-blessed network adapter (which you can only buy directly from them, apparently.) So they blamed that for the problems and suggested I try the wireless link, which I did and it worked on the first try (after I dug out and set up an old wireless router I had.) Gave it two stars because I am not sure who is at fault here, Nintendo or the manufacturer.

I have wireless in my house but my Wii is in an entertainment cabinet where it doesn't have consistent wireless connectivity. Downloading updates or games from the shopping channel would almost always time out :(
The LAN adapter works as advertised and is very easy to install.
