5 out of 5 stars a fair review (by someone who played it)   September 12, 2008
The first 2 Gears of War reviews are by people who have never played it on PC. That being said, you can ignore their reviews. If you have a good PC with a video card better than a GeForce 7900, you should be able to play it, although not at that great of settings. But really, if you're a FPS player, get an 8800 or the equivalent. The multiplayer mode is pretty important because some enemies require teamwork or luck on higher difficulties, so Internet and a WindowsLive (which is free) is pretty important.
As for gameplay, it's the best (and possibly first) shooter so far to use cover as a part of combat. Seems like ducking for cover while your enemy rains down a torrent of bullets should have been an important part of shooters sooner. The strategies such as flanking and cover really come into play to make it seem more like a real gunfight than any other game I've played. As an amazing added bonus, the standard pistol whip has been replaced with a gun with a chainsaw on the end. If you want to see what kind of gore can be pulled off with modern graphics and an "M" rating, you should play this game. This is the most fun I've had in a shooter since Goldeneye.

1 out of 5 stars waste of money   August 30, 2008

I only gave this one star because you can't play the damn game. You have to have one hell of an expensive computer to be able to play this game. I originally bought this game because I don't have an X-Box 360, and wanted to play this game. Now my roommate has an X-Box 360, and I'll just play the X-Box version on his system. Don't buy this game unless you know you have the hardware for it (takes a hefty system). There are some websites that analyze your system's hardware to see if it is capable of playing a game like this. Thankfully I didn't pay the full price for this game. Amazon gives great deals on everything.

1 out of 5 stars THX MICROSOFT   July 26, 2008

Thanks Microsoft for destroying an otherwise good console game. You cannot play online multi nor can you play single player and save your progress UNLESS you 1st sign into windows live. Take a look at my location next to my name. There is no reason at all why I should not be able to play this game , specially the single player side without having to be forced to be online and sign onto windowslive.I bought the game so I should be able to play it and save my progress in story mode but NOPE. I can ALMOST not really but ALMOST understand a comapny making it to where you have to sign on to play online so they wont get ripped off as much BUT PLEASE this is too far.
From now on if I ever see a game with the MADE for WINDOWS logo on top of it I will have to pass.
Its a shame how a monopoly like Microsoft has gone this far.
Before you know it your going to have to sign on to windowslive before you can wipe your ...
