Cows, Baby! Cows! February 14, 2008 This game was a lot of fun. This game was AWESOME! A real classic. It should be brought back in a much unaltered form (just improve the graphics). You didn't have god-like control of your troops (you had a little as the commander in the field, but not much), you were more in the role of Lord & Administrator. More of a realistic sim game than an fantasy/cheese Warcraft game (you know: troop moral is important, they aren't all gonna sacrifice themselves just cuz you want them to). You had to manage the fields, workers, sheep, cattle, building, etc. You had to suppress rebellions (or let them happen so you could bring in the heavy-hand & quiet those peasants down). Standing armies are EXPENSIVE (they eat a TON of food), so you don't keep them around just because you feel like it; you raised armies for reasons. Taking over other towns was fun. Wiping out the other lords one by one (a long campaign). ... An awesome game. It didn't spoon feed you you options: you had to learn and invent. It was cool. I guess it's not for stupid players - they'd want Warcraft. All in all: A great game. I did like this game MORE than Lords of the Realm II. Sad. Maybe LotR3 won't suck.
Lords Of the Old November 15, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is old, but awesome. I used to play this on my 486. Its not like warcraft at all with live troop AI. The Fighting action would make you fall asleep if you werent laughing so hard. I played this on floppies when it first came out and loved it. I still do. There is a lot of sim like managment to the game. You have to run a county and build it up. You can get hit with good times and bad, its random. If you do well your county will grow and you can make troops and take over other counties till you have them all. I highly recomend this game for your kids. It teaches great managment skills and is really a lot of fun for young and old.
Lords of the Realm August 23, 2006 The English throne lies empty in 1268 A.D. You and 5 lords are locked in a struggle for the crown. Reap the benefits of successful feudal governing, castle-building, castle-sieging, and land battle to conquer your rivals and claim the kingdom.
You must keep your serfs fed and happy. Then assign them to farming, herding, building, military and other tasks. Design your own castles or build them using actual historical blueprints. Then lay siege to your neighbors' castles and fight out land battles in tactical detail.
lORDS OF THE REALM BY AN OLDER GAME PLAYER January 12, 2006 THIS GAME INTRIGUED ME FROM DAY ONE WHEN MY KIDS FIRST PLAYED IT. WE COULD ALL PLAY AND HAVE THE COMPUTER TAKE SOME OF THE 'LORDS' ROLES. DIFFERENT STRATEGIES BY THE PLAYERS GAVE THE GAME AN EXTRA BITE. YOU COULD ADOPT A SECURE BUILD CASTLE AND WEALTH ON YOUR HOME TURF OR JUST SEND OUT SMALL ARMY TO PILLAGE THE COUNTRYSIDE AND HARRAS YOU OPPONENTS. DESTROY THEIR VILLAGERS AND BUST DOWN THEIR CASTLES BEFORE THEY CAN COMPLETE THEM. CONQUER OTHER TERRITORY PLUNDER IT OF TROOPS AND CATTLE OR SHEEP THEN ABANDON AS A WASTE LAND. NASTY STUFF I ADMIT. BUT GOOD FUN IN A GAME. LIKED THE END SENARIO WHEN THE WINNER HAS A ROYAL ENTRANCE.
